Masters of Sex came back last night and it definitely geared the series up for an awesome (steamy) second season. In case you missed it, you can watch the entire first episode below.

Oh, and if you're not already obsessing over the Showtime series? Now is the right time to start. And if you are, but need a recap of last season's events, look no further:

The series follows Dr. William Masters and Virginia Johnson, real-life 1950s sex research pioneers, as they work through their contentious study and the complications that come with it. The smart period series is comprised of quick-wit, briskly-progressing plot lines, and major drama. The second season premiered yesterday and we’ve got the lowdown to catch you up to speed.

Last season left off at a climatic ending as Masters presented his controversial study to the medical community. Needless to say, the '50s doctors were outraged and Bill was promptly fired. Virginia received a marriage proposal from Dr. Ethan Haas (the young doctor she began to see after she realized the gravity of her adulterous relationship with Masters) and hesitates. In the closing scene, Bill shows up at Virginia's doorstep claiming he can't live without her. A pretty dramatic way to close a freshman season!

This time around, you can expect things to get even more messy (all in the name of science, of course) as personal feelings seep even further into their case study. Also expect drama on Bill’s family-life side, too, seeing Mrs. Masters still has no idea her husband partook in the study itself with Virginia, who she considers a close friend and confidant. On top of all this emotional turmoil, they need to get their research going again, even though they remain shunned by the medical community.

Need more rousing reasons to catch the show? Viewer-favorite Betty DiMello (a former prostitute) is returning and new characters (welcome Sarah Silverman and Christian Borle to the series!) will be introduced. Oh yeah, and you can learn what role-playing can do for a relationship—in a tasteful, clever manner, of course.

Check out the emotional roller coaster of a trailer for the second season below. Then watch the season every Sunday at 10pm EST on Showtime. Your summer just got the dramatic jolt it needed.
