The Curator: Haley Stark, Art Director
The News: Christopher Owens is Back...
...and he's brought a new song, a new album (A New Testament is dropping September 30th), and a national tour! Catch me dancing to Never Wanna See That Look Again at the Music Hall of Williamsburg next month. Until then, listen below.
The Look: Mosh-Pit Chic
Speaking of concerts, I have a confession to make: I've only been in a mosh pit once in my life, and it mightttt have been at an Of Montreal show. I know, it's a weird idea to mosh to something as bubblegum-pop as Hissing Fauna, but that's high school angst for you. However, if I ever truly earn that drenched-in-strangers-sweat-and-who-knows-what-else look, I'd want to look like these shots of Nimue Smit afterwards (photographed by Aitken Jolly).
The Face: No-makeup Makeup
Ever rolled out of bed and had perfectly flawless skin, full eyebrows, and rosy lips, without even a drop of moisturizer or eyeliner? Yeah, me neither. Luckily, I'm taking sans-makeup inspiration from this editorial for Elle Collections UK (also shot by Aitken Jolly– what can I say, I'm a huge fan). Fake it 'til you make it, right?
The Inspiration: All Oversized Everything
I'm a huge fan of dressing ten sizes too large, to the point where if clothes hugged my body, it would feel like sartorial heresy. Luckily, the fashion gods have leaned in my favor: The new Need Supply catalogue features oversized coats, baggy dresses, bustled skirts, and layers upon layers—perfect for a freezing cold NYC winter.
The Song: "Spending All My Time" by Perfume
This video's quirky outfits, elaborate hand movements, intense repetition, and telekinetic explosions make my brain melt. Plus, the song was written and produced by Yasutaka Nakata (Kyary Pamyu Pamyu's famed right-hand man), so rest assured that it will be stuck in your head all day.
