While getting a trim last week my hair stylist dropped a bit of depressing news: Although he works at one of the coolest downtown salons, the most requested 'do is "The Kim Kardashian."
"Ughhh...." he moaned. "It's like, are there no other girls you want to look like?!" I'd have to agree; not that there's anything wrong with looking like you just got off that Bound 2 bike, but there are so many cool girls out there that there has to be a more interesting cut to model yours after.
If you're in a cut rut, I'd suggest turning to my personal favorite look, which is a Jane Birkin-Brigitte Bardot hybrid (also known as the Pattie Boyd). It's got blunt bangs, a bit of volume, and some serious It Girl attitude--and it definitely does not feel dated. Just check out Suki Waterhouse, a modern day It Girl who arrived at the Burberry men's show looking insanely cool.
Bring this photo to your stylist the next time you get a cut, but if you're impatient and want to try it out right now, here's how to style it:
ROLL IT: Conair Brush Mega Self Grip Rollers - $8.94
Wrap about one-inch sections around rollers, starting at the top of your head and then moving down.
HOLD IT: Garnier Fructis Full Control Aerosol Hairspray - $4.55
Set the rollers with hairspray, allowing it time to dry before you take them out.
AMP IT: Bumble and Bumble Pret a Powder - $26
If you don't have a comb to tease the crown of your hair, shake this onto your roots and massage it into to get instant lift. Give the whole look a brush through to loosen up the curls.
