In a world where overbearing parents breed ambitious, precocious children, one would expect the French classic and best-seller The Little Prince to be profusely analyzed and studied. Ironically enough, in the book's new animated film adaptation, it's this existential tale of human nature and emotion that poses a problem in The Little Girl's (voiced by Mackenzie Foy) academic development.
The story itself is framed around Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s tale, through The Aviator (voiced by Jeff Bridges). One day, he writes his story—how he came to meet an alien prince while stranded in the desert—on a paper airplane and flies it through The Little Girl's bedroom. After some apprehension, she strikes up a friendship and allows herself to become friends with the man, therefore opening herself up to her childish inhibitions.
Directed by Mark Osborne and executed by an all-star cast, including James Franco, Benicio del Toro, Rachel McAdams, Ricky Gervais, Paul Giamatti, and Paul Rudd, it seems as if the film will be a stunning, tear-jerking work.
