A Psychology Today article published last year said that Internet trolls "are narcissists, psychopaths, and sadists." We'd like to think that isn't true about everyone on this list (love you, Patton Oswalt!), but one thing is for sure: These seven digital provocateurs have mastered the art of getting a reaction online, for better or worse.

After what felt like one of the longest winters ever, spring seems to finally be on the horizon (maybe? hopefully??). And while we love our boots, soon it'll be time to put them in the back of our closet to make room for the season's coolest new kicks.

We usually go pretty hard on our spring and summer shoes, though—subjecting them to numerous muddy festivals, sandy surfaces, and long walks across the city. So, dishing out hundreds of dollars for a pair of fancy, strappy sandals just doesn't seem worth it. Over the years, we've become experts at finding on-trend, super-cool shoes on the cheap. Click through the gallery to see our top 50 picks for spring under $50.

hilary duff's edgy transformation is complete

Taking a page out of Miley Cyrus’ book, former child star Hilary Duff is looking to reinvent herself as a wild, free spirit—complete with tattoos (12, to be exact), turquoise hair, and a bikini selfie. Duff addressed her new look on Ellen today.

The 27-year-old actress originally debuted her new 'do on Instagram, citing mermaids as her inspiration. But as she revealed to Ellen, it wasn’t exactly mermaids that inspired her look, but their habitat. “I was just in Cabo with [my son Luca] and I was staring at the ocean and I was like, ‘I want that on my head.’ So, this happened.”

In addition to providing some hair inspo, Duff’s trip to Cabo also resulted in a much-discussed bikini selfie. “I was on a trip with my son, and it’s been three years since I had him,” she told Ellen. “I’m just so proud of my body and what it’s done for me.” We would be proud too; she looks like a mega-babe.

But Duff didn’t stop at a sexy selfie and green hair (if Miley’s taught us anything, it’s that the transition from child star to edgy adult takes commitment). She also revealed a handful of tattoos. Her latest tat reads "BK," in reference to her time spent in Brooklyn filming Sex and the City creator Darren Star’s new TV Land show, Younger

Most of Duff’s tats are on the inside of her arms, allowing the actress to enjoy two distinct lifestyles. “When my arms are down I look just like a normie and when my arms are out I look super hardcore, like a gangster,” she says. Miley would be proud.

We'll admit it: We're pretty confused by this weather. It seems like everyone else is, too, judging by how we often see someone wrapped in a winter coat followed by someone in flip flops.

With the weather in a weird limbo of not-too-cold and not-too-hot, you may be stuck standing in front of your closet trying to figure out what the hell you should wear. Luckily, we've rounded up our choice of transitional weather picks to get you through this awkward season.

a live-action 'mulan' is coming

Another day, another major announcement from Disney. Fresh off the heels of Cinderella's stunning global success, the Mouse House has announced that Mulan will be the latest animated classic being remade with real live actors. Much like the 1998 original, the new version will once again be based on the Chinese legend of Hua Mulan in which a teenage girl dresses as a man in order to go to war and totally kick butt (that's the abridged version, obviously).

The news comes as no surprise, as Disney continues to capitalize on their ultra-iconic back catalog. After Cinderella joined Maleficent as proof that audiences love seeing their Disney characters IRL, the studio fast-tracked the upcoming Beauty & The Beast remake, starring Emma Watson and Dan Stevens, and enlisted Tim Burton to take on Dumbo

Now, with the search for a Mulan officially underway, it's only a matter of time before Disney announces their next live-action reboot. Our money's on Ariel.

band crush: iyes

IYES is an electro-pop duo from Brighton, a city with a hallowed dance-music history that they push forward on their excellent new single, "Glow." With his-and-hers vocals courtesy of IYES members Josh Christopher and Melis Soyaslanová, a rapid-fire snare, and echoing atmospherics throughout, the track is a perfect intro to IYES' sound and a good indication of why they were signed by Sony. This is capital P Pop music, and we can't get enough.

How would you describe your aesthetic?
J: The way I would describe IYES aesthetic is timeless. When younger, I’d wear flamboyant colours and wild clothes to portray what kind of emotions I must have been feeling at the time, but now, I’m all about monochrome colours.

How did your career get started?
J: In the early stages, we just put up a handful of demos to feed blogs that went crazy over our first demo, “Lighthouse.” We rode the buzz-wave; if the blogs love your music and you’re fresh, a few will post about you and then the rest will follow.

What are you most proud of so far in terms of your career?
M: That we have got people who believe in us and support us, from fans, to our team, to our management and family. It’s a very nice position to be in.

What famous person dead or living do most wish you could have as a roommate?
M: I would like to live with Will Smith because I think he would be the most inspiring of people and be able to teach me wisdom quicker than experiences can. I think he’s the best example of a good parent and good person.

What is your favorite driving music?
M: When I drive I like to listen to Bonobo. That’s what we listened to a lot on tour with Raleigh Ritchie. It holds good memories I suppose.
J: I like anything really, anything where I can dream about being the producer creating it! I love to sit there and just say to myself “How the fuck did he compress that so well?” or “What kind of saturation plug-in is that?”

What activities do most enjoy doing alone?
M: Some Yoga and/or any kind of sweat-inducing exercise. I do a lot of writing music alone too, as I feel it’s where I write wholeheartedly and best.
J: I like spontaneous nights sitting at a bar alone and getting to know new people and make new friends. It’s a great confidence-boosting technique.

How do you wind down before bed?
J: Melis drinks her body weight in herbal tea. The amount of tea I watch her drink day and night, when we’re working or when we’re chilling, she’s addicted. I like to watch a really dark thriller, or a touch of red wine. Can’t beat it.

What kind of person were you in high school?
M: I’m an educational person so I learned a lot, but to be honest, I never liked school. It was great for socialising though, and the best part about school is seeing friends and chasing boys, right?
J: I was quite dysfunctional as you could probably imagine. I got good grades though!

What are some new hobbies you would like to take on?
M: Dance. I really want to try dance.
J: I’d be interested in learning more about cooking. It’s something i’m passionate about and creative with, but I need to learn a little more before I can take a path into the gourmet world.

How do you hope to grow as a creative person?
M: To be able to write better songs and learn music theory properly.
J: I’m not sure how to answer that one. Come back to me in a few years and I’ll have an answer to it.

ryan reynolds' buff bod is like woah

Actors have a long history of getting buff to play superheroes, with Tobey Maguire, Chris Pratt, and Chris Evans the best three examples of the complete body transformation that saving the world requires. So when Ryan Reynolds discovered that his long-buried Deadpool vehicle finally got the green light, did he run to the nearest Gold's gym and sign up for a two week trial? Nope. Because the thing is, Reynolds has always been completely jacked. After all this will be the actor's third time playing a comic book hero (he played Deadpool in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and the other, well, let's not speak of that movie ever again.) And to prove that he's still got that crime fighting body, Reynolds tweeted a photo taken after a gym session (upkeep!), alongside a future super hero who gave the actor a run for his money. Check it out below.

this is what nyc's most exclusive sex party is like

$

The first time I had ever attended a sex party I had to ask a friend to be my date. This particular party, which I been invited to, was to be hosted by a friend of Kate Middleton's (seriously), meaning it was a) really exclusive and b) very fancy. That sort of prestige gave me a do-or-die attitude, but did not comfort my nerves. However, as a born-and-raised New Yorker, I find new experiences in my city hard to come by. This, however, was definitely unfamiliar territory, and I was intrigued.

I put it bluntly: “Would you go to a sex party with me?”

“Why not?” He replied, in an unwavering voice.

This was the sort of party you needed permission to attend, and I asked this friend in particular in case there was a screening process: He’s a professional male model, so in addition to being extremely attractive, I knew he could handle strange situations with poise.

The week leading up to the event, I tried to prepare myself mentally, physically, and emotionally. I read every sex party story I could find; I ate healthy, lifted, and did yoga. Still, no amount of preparation eased my anxiety about being naked and engaging in sexual activity in front of a bunch of strangers.

Sex does not make me shy: I have previously written about Pornhub’s New York Porn Film Festival, memorized the Fifty Shades of Grey series, tackled a piece on sexual choking, and could talk about sex with anyone. I have always been something of an alpha in that sense. But, even so, as we approached the unassuming building that housed the fancy orgy, fear went through me (right through my scandalous undergarments).

All the articles I read said to wear new lingerie to boost your confidence, which I did—but it just made me feel vulnerable. I knew my date felt the same.

Closing the door to the bustling streets, we signed confidentiality forms and assumed new identities. We got on the elevator, which quickly filled with electric, nervous tension as I struggled to hastily tie my date’s mask (oh, yeah—those were required). It’s difficult to tie on a masquerade mask in general, but doing so with shaking hands felt like it was a life or death situation.

The doors opened to a dimly lit but spacious penthouse. The $250 tickets naturally lured in an expensively dressed crowd. But while the party itself was meant to be exclusive, secretive, and for New York’s elite, it wasn’t a crowd of Christian Greys or leggy Victoria Secret types, and I was pleasantly surprised to find variety in age, shape, and size.

The party was structured to create a safe environment for women. There were strict rules that stated no man was allowed entry without a female date, and men were not allowed to approach women by themselves.

First off, coat check took away as much clothing as I would allow at that moment. I led my date over to the couches, trying not to trip in my heels.

There was a bar in the space, but while some people were getting tipsy, it didn't seem anyone was really relying on the alcohol for courage. With our own champagne, oysters, and crackers, we found the room was filling up slower than we would have liked. We had already seen enough butt grabbing to last a life time and were actually—actually—growing bored. At a sex party. In New York City.

Eventually, we stepped on to the small balcony and smoked cigarettes in a very House of Cards fashion. Wrapped in my date’s navy Topman suit jacket, I shivered alongside other couples who were also trying to relax. Finally, as my body temperature cooled down, so did my nerves. We began to talk to the people around us and discovered that people from all walks of life—who worked as consultants, fashion buyers, video producers, and hedge-fund heads—turned into free-spirited sexual beings once the night took hold.

To my surprise, upon speaking to the other couples, it was clear that the majority of them were also sex-party virgins. Many seemed more nervous than us. One woman even mentioned that she had a daughter who looked only slightly younger than me. She couldn’t have said much else to make me feel any more uncomfortable and out of place.

Everyone asked for the story of my date and me. In truth, we were only friends. But I quickly responded that we had been dating for six months, had previously worked together but never spoke, and met up on our separately planned trips in Melbourne, Australia. I almost gave him a high-five right then and there for not being fazed by the story that I had concocted on the fly.

One particular couple became our partners-in-crime. They were into kinkier sex than most of the other couples at the party, and I couldn’t help but feel a magnetic pull towards them. The man was mysterious and extremely attractive (from what the mask showed) and had laughed boisterously when we asked what kind of consulting he did. His date was the kind of person who could make even this awkward situation more comfortable. We quickly latched on to them and together, we entered the playroom.

The playroom was the designated space for sexual activity. There was an open doorway leading to it. It had a large white futon that somehow fit the majority of the 50 guests, while the rest were strewn about on five leather couches, the floor, and the walls.

First, we just awkwardly watched couples perform oral sex and provided commentary as if we were watching a sporting event. We were particularly fascinated with a man from Milan with a fashionably clean beard—wondering if he had a snorkel while he was orally pleasuring a young woman in Agent Provocateur lingerie.

But then our new friends decided to start moving things along (we were sober at this point, which was fine). The man from the other couple pulled out a short riding crop, which my my date ended up using on me (mostly because we didn’t know what else to do).

After enough bruises formed for that moment, I turned to check on the rest of the room to find that we were amidst a real life Bacchanale scene. Couples were on the bed in every position imaginable. Some were switching partners continuously. Others stuck to their dates. Lap dances by various couples on the same couch, bowls of condoms that were nearly empty (that was the only safe-sex supply I noticed), and couples engaging in various types of sexual activity covered every inch of the room, even the floor. A variety of sultry sounds filled my ears. Mountains of clothing covered whatever space was left. I was actually surprised we left with all our belongings intact.

I finally understood that in the playroom, nothing except the moment mattered. It was just you and whomever you were focusing on. You were only pulled out of it if a couple next to you broke through the sounds of moans and music. I remember laughing into my date’s mouth in the middle of a heated make-out session while straddling him with only my lingerie left covering me when I heard our partners in crime discussing whether or not to take a cigarette break while still in the middle of some aggressive doggy style. They said it so casually despite the situation.

When it was over, we finished our cigarettes and proceeded to the exit. While my date helped me with my coat, I asked one of the staff members his thoughts on the whole soiree.

“It’s a beautiful thing” he said. “It’s a lot of people just being happy and enjoying life.”

We stepped back out into the street—the sidewalk was the same as I’d left it, but I felt different. It was thrilling to think that people walking by had no idea what we just experienced. If this was how New York’s elite played, then I was game for the next play date. But as I walked home, I realized that “elite sex party” didn’t really describe what it was. It was more like well-organized mutual enjoyment of life’s more exotic pleasures—and that is something anyone can get into, “elite” or not.

kristen wiig is hilarious in the 'masterminds' trailer

Since the world-beating success of Bridesmaids, Kristen Wiig has been busy burnishing her indie and acting cred in poignant little movies like last year's The Skeleton Twins. But this summer she'll return to the wacky type of comedy that made her a star, in the caper romp, Masterminds.

In the movie's first trailer, Wiig is joined by Zach Galifianakis in the true story of the largest heist pulled off in American history. Known as the 1997 Loomis Fargo Robbery, Galifianakis plays an armored car driver who teams up with Wiig's character to steal $17 million in cold, hard cash. Owen Wilson and Jason Sudeikis show up as shady characters who get involved once the money is stolen and things start to go horribly, hilariously wrong. Masterminds was directed by Napolean Dynamite creator Jared Hess, and like that film, this one seems filled with absurd haircuts and slapstick gags. "Brace your boobies," indeed.

Masterminds hits theaters on August 14.

big sean on his rags to riches story

$

In the greenroom of Revolt TV’s Hollywood studio, Big Sean looks down at his Yeezy Boosts and shakes his head. “They’re getting beat up really bad,” he says of his “little gift” from mentor Kanye West. “I haven’t really been taking them off.” His large diamond-and-gold Jesus piece chain, on the other hand, has been removed and placed on his barber’s side table next to some clippers. Gone are the days when Big Sean (né Sean Michael Anderson) watched tears stream down his mom’s face as she stressed over unpaid bills back in his hometown of Detroit.

Now, after the release of his third album, Dark Sky Paradise, Big Sean vows: “I’ll never have to go through that again.” The record, which took a year to craft, chronicles this very journey from rags to riches. “I was going through so many things within that year,” he says. “Creatively, I was just trying to figure it out and take things to the next level. It was a difficult time for me, so that was the dark sky part. I was up late every night. The nighttime sky became damn near daytime for me. Then when I put everything into perspective, how far I still came, that’s the paradise.”

Back in 2005, Sean caught West’s ear with a freestyle outside a radio station in Detroit. “I thought, ‘Maybe I could go to the pros,’” he says, holding his head still while getting his fade edged up. But a year later, he was still living with his mother. “That was a depressing time,” he admits. “All I was doing was running up my mom’s debt. I’d spent all of the money that my grandma put away for me for college on studio sessions.”

But two years later, West would fly Sean out to Los Angeles to hit the studio and eventually sign him to his Def Jam imprint G.O.O.D. Music. “That’s when my whole life changed,” recalls Sean. Within the next six years, he rolled out four mixtapes and dropped two major-label albums. But none of them were projected to land atop the charts until the release of February’s Dark Sky Paradise.

“It’s 100 percent me and 100 percent true, meaning true with conviction,” he says of the album, which features West, Chris Brown, Drake, E-40, Lil Wayne, and Sean’s girlfriend, Ariana Grande. Subject-wise it tackles loyalty, failed relationships, struggle, and success over gritty, ratchet, and soulful beats. For most of the album, the rapper takes a serious tone, trading his sometimes sarcastic flow for songs that he hopes might be “the soundtrack for people’s ups and downs,” he says. “I kept it real.” Kiss-off track (and lead single) “I Don’t Fuck With You,” is one of the bluntest on the album. “Bitch I got no feelings to go/ I swear I had it up to here, I got no ceilings to go/ I mean for real, fuck how you feel” he raps. The song was released on the heels of his split from Glee star Naya Rivera, but Sean says he began writing the lyrics before they broke up. “But as time went on, my situation started relating a little bit more,” he adds.

The 27-year-old rapper has since moved on to 21-year-old pop singer Ariana Grande. Sean says the relationship evolved naturally. “We was just hanging out, and she was cool,” he says. “We were friends for years before anything. That’s the best way.”

After meeting Sean, it’s easy to see why he’s the guy who gets the girl. There’s an easy warmth to his presence; he’s generous with a smile and hug for someone he just met. He also has good taste—he digs Saint Laurent jeans because “a good fit is the most important thing.” Plus he’s direct. He’ll be the first to tell you success has changed him. “Hell yeah,” he says. “I feel like people have that concept a little backward. I’m definitely different. I’m a little wiser and more focused, and I know what I want, which is happiness. Happiness is the key to success. But I’m still learning as I go.”

azealia banks gives off major medusa vibes in "ice princess"

Prepare for another cold front—Azealia Banks is giving a frozen forecast in her latest music video for "Ice Princess." While she's known for stirring up some controversies in her recent tell-all Playboy interview and on Twitter, the rapper is showing just how strong she really is, as she takes on magical Medusa-like powers to defeat anything in her way.

Directed by We Were Monkeys, the video for the 23-year-old's single from her debut album Broke with Expensive Taste is heavily animated and stylized in a way that's a mix of Game of ThronesFrozen, and Greek mythology. Surrounded by an army of CGI ice robot-ninja-warriors, Banks has the presence of a queen rather than a princess. With a giant frozen pedestal that makes the Iron Throne look like a measly chair, she commands attention both with her menacing (yet super-cool) snake headdress and impressive rhymes. It's clear that Banks has proved her talent as a rapper—and now her ice princess persona is helping her to take down anyone who may try to cross her. She's not here to play games.

With an on-point aesthetic and giant pet basilisk to fly her through the sky, frozen royal Banks takes charge of her wintery kingdom while throwing out some tight verses. Watch the video below.

iggy azalea and britney spears have a duet on the way

Say what you will about Iggy Azalea's questionable social media antics—the 24-year-old does create some really great music. And even if you're not a fan, you have to admit that it's catchy. So it only makes sense that for her latest collaboration, Azalea is teaming up with the queen of pop herself: Britney Spears.

At Sunday's iHeartRadio Awards, Azalea spoke with MTV about the song. Apparently the track, which will be released May 5, originally started as Spears' song with a small feature by Azalea. When Spears thought her album would be delayed, Azalea took the song back and rewrote parts—it thus became "her" song. But when Spears realized the album would, in fact, be completed in time, Azalea sent the rewritten version back. "In turn, it's kind of really evolved to something that I was just featured on originally into really a true duet," clarified Azalea.

And, yes, it seems as if everything's going well between the pair. "She's super nice," Azalea said of Spears. "She came to my house and had lunch and I didn't know what to expect, and we actually really got along. I've been texting her, annoying her with all my ideas for the video and she's been a really good sport about it, so I'm really excited."

So far, the rapper doesn't have any collaborations officially planned for her upcoming album. "I'm still just kind of working on my own stuff," said Azalea. "And it's really a personal goal of mine to get some singles out there that aren't collaborations—that are just mine. And once I feel like I've secured that and have that solidly done, then I'll start to think about my collaborations."

Late March might not seem like an ideal time to go sailing around New York Harbor, but when Karl Lagerfeld is sending out the invites, you don't say no. The Chanel mastermind, along with CR Fashion Book and V Magazine, hosted the #CruiseWithKarl last night, and one search of that hashtag on Instagram pretty much confirmed that this boat was the center of the fashion universe.

Cara Delevingne, Kendall Jenner, Katy Perry, Dakota Johnson, the Hadid sisters, and many, many more were treated to a seated dinner, a live performance by Tinashe, tunes by DJ Paris Hilton, and an ideal selfie backdrop courtesy of Lady Liberty herself. The cruise was a pre-party for tonight's Chanel Metiers d'Art show at the Park Avenue Armory, where you can bet Kendall, Cara, and Gigi will be modelling Karl's latest creations. Scroll through the gallery for pics from the biggest party on a boat since this one.

beyoncé basically dressed like a superhero

Yesterday, Jay Z launched his new music streaming service, Tidal. For its official release, Jay Z held a press conference with Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, Kanye West, Madonna, Alicia Keys, Usher, Daft Punk, deadmau5, Jason Aldean, Jack White, Chris Martin of Coldplay, Win Butler and Régine Chassagn of Arcade Fire, and Calvin Harris in attendance—and, of course Beyoncé.

While everyone was dressed to impress in their best business casual attire, Beyoncé opted for a statement-making superhero-like outfit. The look, which included a luxe black and white V-neck romper, black pearl body chain, fishnet stockings, and a jaw-dropping black lace cape, was finished with a villainous dark smokey eye and deep part.

So although Tidal was Jay Z's moment to shine, Mrs. Carter stole the show (as always). Call it intuition, a premonition, or some sort of weird feeling, but cape-gate is back in session. Guess we'll have to thank Queen Bey for that.

everything that was in the nylon girl's bedroom in '99

Sure, tradition states that we celebrate anniversaries on the fives, but we’d be remiss to let our sweet 16 slip by with nary a mention. Suckers for nostalgia that we are, the staff was stoked to dig through our archives—and our parents’ basements—to re-create the ultimate nylon reader’s bedroom circa 1999. We obviously had to ask Rachel Trachtenburg of the Prettiots (and formerly Supercute!) to model. Back when the mag was kicking off, she was the six-year-old drummer playing alongside her folks in the Trachtenburg family slideshow players, touring the country—and hitting estate sales for the vintage slides that inspired their songs. Needless to say, she’s got an enviable collection of ephemera from the ’80s, ’90s, and early aughts, and had plenty to donate to our cause, including X-Files action figures still in the box! Click through the gallery to see what the NYLON girl's bedroom would contain in '99.

five reasons to stop calling it "settling down"

$

0

The combining of words is like a drug for me. I'm always trying to do it better, funnier, cleverer. But in my writing endeavors I often come across phrases that simply need to retire, and fade into forgotten memory. Here's one idiom that needs its jersey hung up: Settling Down.

As will come as no shock to my friends, this post was inspired by a Buzzfeed video called 27 Things To Do Before You Settle Down. It's a PSA for anyone thinking of maybe falling in love with someone appropriate. Items to tick off ranged from the predictable (skydive, travel), to the reasonable (be financially independent, learn to cook), to the eyeroll-worthy (live alone, and jump on the futurniture, obvs). And while beautifully composed and set to lovely music, the video stung. Not because it was offensive or rude, but because it was just wrong.

What is it about these 27 things you wouldn't be able to do in a relationship ? A long-term one, even? (Oooh, scary phrase). I also wondered why the creator chose the term "settling down." What does that phrase really mean? And why do we still use it? Here are the five reasons we should never say it again.

1. Why start at the end? The brass tacks of "settling down" is that you're done dating. You've found a person. That sounds like the start of something to me, not the end. "Settling down" itself sounds so glum, like the sound that plays when you lose on a game show. If we define partnering by its negatives (no more sex with new people, the gradual decline of passion, etc), it seems like we're starting something wonderful on the wrong foot.

Maybe defining a new relationship with a coffin nail is why it holds fear for some. Why isn't it exciting to learn more about someone than anyone else ever will? What about being comfortable enough with someone to really experiment sexually doesn't sound like a good time? What do you have against splitting the rent, I ask you?! If we enter into something new with a "game over" mentality, won't we always long for the way things were when we were still playing? I'd rather start at a beginning than pull up a chair at the end.

2. We still grow. You never stop achieving "you-ness." Your personality and experiences will always grow and mature, from now until the end of time. Coupling doesn't turn off your ability to continue with self-discovery. Unless they've locked you in a cage. Have they locked you in a cage? (The major exception to this, of course, is if you're in an abusive relationship. If you are, we recommend getting help from resources like The National Domestic Violence Hotline.)

We talk of love as this thrilling thing we crave. But we talk of three years after we've found that love as if we've had our wings clipped. A true partner wouldn't stop you from achieving goals, self-awareness, education—anything you choose to add to who you are. Isn't there confidence to be found in a strong home? Maybe it's just me, but if I could come home to love and friendship every night, I'd feel supported to accomplish whatever goal I want during the day.

3. It still sexy. Settling down sounds like you're going to have zero fun at all with your partner. Forever. Last time I checked, sex on a regular basis and someone to make you breakfast tacos sounds like a damn good time. Maybe what we're referring to is the natural fading of passion over time. We all know what the third month of a relationship is like. We all know it's very different from the 36th month of a relationship.

Here's one to add to your 27 things: Learn how to build passion. Are we so entitled that we think a relationship should always provide passion for us? That we don't have to make it ourselves? Passion is the same as any fire. You have to (sometimes literally) put some wood on it. What if we acknowledged that there will always be some mystery to our partners? What if we challenged ourselves to always see them as exciting? And when things naturally fall into routine, can't we just shake things up if we want to? Is that hard?

4. You're not sewn together. All independence is not lost once you fall in love. You can actually make plans without your partner. You can make certain decisions without your partner. You can (gasp!) travel and have fun without your partner! Heavens me, and I thought it was all pecks on the cheek and vacuuming.

Who we are as individuals is who we were when our partners fell in love with us. Is it not logical to keep that individuality for their sake, as well as our own? A repeated phrase I see in my online dating travels is that straight men seem to want a woman who "has her own life." Are there women who don't? Are we just keeping some extras in a coma until they're selected by their partners to wake up and live?

5. Grownups have more fun. I guess what struck and hurt the most was that most of the activities in this video were fun. They were fun activities that somehow need to be enjoyed before you find the partner you'll be doing fun things with for the majority of your years on earth. In my mind, and certainly in my house, fun doesn't end when you couple up or marry. Fun ends when you die.

Little known fact: Being an adult is actually more fun than being a broke, ill-informed, shy-on-life-experience twenty-something. Every exciting moment and wild time can—wait for it—be had at any age, and again at any age after that. You're only as settled down as you decide to be. Spontaneity isn't something you have to throw out like your ugly coffee table when you commit to a relationship. I'd like to think just the opposite. Hold on fiercely to your sense of adventure, which might even be easier with four hands than two.

I guess we're all free to define our life choices any way we want. And experiences we have out of love are certainly just as valuable as those we have in it. Love, commitment, fun, and freedom don't know an age, or an expiration date. I will never, under any circumstance, settle down. But I'm looking forward to partnering up.
