'full house' is getting a reunion series

If you were a kid in the '80s and/or '90s, your favorite feel-good family show is (most likely) returning to screens everywhere, and it's in for a bit of a 2015 update. Netflix is gearing up to sign a 13-episode series continuation of Full House, titled Fuller House (duh) with Candace Cameron Bure reprising her role as D.J. and Andrea Barber returning as her ever-effervescent best friend, Kimmy.

While the revival will focus on D.J. (who we're guessing will still strike major cool-girl envy in our hearts), the show is reportedly in talks with Bob Saget, Dave Coulier, and John Stamos for guest appearances. Stamos will also have a producer role alongside the show's original creator and executive producers. Have mercy!

Fresh on the heels of Disney's Boy Meets World revival, Girl Meets World, as well as announcements of Twin Peaks and X-Files comebacks, it only seems fitting that this iconic family sitcom returns to the spotlight as well. Until then, we'll just have to imagine what may have happened in Danny Tanner's sunny San Francisco home since the show ended in 1995: Did Uncle Jesse become a world famous model/singer/Instagram celeb? Did Uncle Joey finally make his comedic mark on Vine? Did Baby Michelle go on to launch a fashion empire? Only time will tell.

steak quizzes people on their favorite burger

If there's one thing we love more than a good burger, it's great indie music. That's where Burger Records comes in: At its annual showcase, Burgerama, it combines super-rad tunes with good old fashioned American fun. This year, acts like Weezer, Ariel Pink, Ty Segall, Soko, and FIDLAR played in front of a down-to-earth festival audience—one (thankfully) void of overly thought-out outfits. We met up with Steak, a.k.a. Rachael Finley, and quizzed people on their favorite burgers. Check it out.

watch the trailer for the sundance hit 'me and earl and the dying girl'

Me and Earl and the Dying Girl was the runaway winner at this year's Sundance Film Festival, a tragicomic indie that traffics equally in laughter and tears. It won the festival's top two prizes and turned its three young leads—Thomas Mann, Olivia Cooke, and RJ Cyler—into rising stars to keep an eye on.

The movie's first trailer does a great job at portraying the film's tricky tone. Yes, it focuses on the relationship between two high school students, one of whom has cancer, but unlike The Fault in Our Stars, their relationship isn't romantic, something the trailer makes clear from the start. Add to that a quirky side plot where Mann and Cyler's characters spend their free time recreating their favorite movies, plus actors like Molly Shannon, Connie Britton, and Nick Offerman in supporting roles, and there's no reason not to see this movie when it comes out on June 12.

florence + the machine is back with another new song

Another day, another Florence + The Machine song. And this time, it’s something a little more radio friendly.

Unlike the previous tracks Welch has teased off her forthcoming LP How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful, “Ship To Wreck” takes a bigger chunk out of her Lungs playbook. The harshness of “What Kind of Man” is replaced with a bit of poppy self-loathing. Her usual themes of drunken debauchery rear their playful heads with lyrics like “Did I drink too much / Am I losing touch / Did I build a ship to wreck.” It’s one of those tracks you’ll likely wind up belting after throwing a few back in the wee hours of the night.

Though Welch has only released the audio for “Ship To Wreck,” a video is most likely on the way, since every other single off this new project has been accompanied with one in time. But for now, get down to this.

frances bean cobain opens up about her relationship with her father

For the past few years, Frances Bean Cobain has managed to escape the overwhelming media attention that plagued her childhood. But, as executive producer of the upcoming documentary Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck, Frances has put herself at the helm of what may very well be the most important pop culture commentary of the past 20 years. The visual artist sat down with Rolling Stone to speak about the film, and in doing so, she opened up about her father, life after his death, and her complicated relationship to her mother, Courtney Love.

"For me, the film provided a lot more factual information about my father–not just tall tales that were misconstrued, misremembered, rehashed, retold 10 different ways," Frances, who was less than two years old when her father committed suicide, said. "It was factual evidence of who my father was as a child, as a teenager, as a man, as a husband, as an artist. It explored every single aspect of who he was as a human being."

"Kurt got to the point where he eventually had to sacrifice every bit of who he was to his art, because the world demanded it of him," Frances declared. "I think that was one of the main triggers as to why he felt he didn't want to be here and everyone would be happier without him." But, "In reality, if he had lived," she said, "I would have had a dad. And that would have been an incredible experience."

In a 1992 Vanity Fair interview, Courtney Love reportedly admitted to using heroin while pregnant with Frances. The mother and daughter were later estranged for a few years, but the film seems to have brought them closer together. The film contains a scene that depicts "a clearly intoxicated Cobain struggles to sit upright as his infant daughter sits in his lap getting a haircut." That scene, Frances said, helped her connect to her mother. "My mother held me, cried on me and just said, 'I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry. Just kept saying it over and over. But then she said, 'Do you realize how much your father loved you?' And I said, 'Yeah, I do.'" According to Rolling Stone, "Frances said it was the first time her mom and apologized for anything relating to her youth."

"What really surprised me was watching my parents' love story," Frances said. "Because they were so close to my age now. It was like friends falling in love—I did not expect that."

Despite all the heartbreaking things that were said in the interview, the one thing that media outlets have been picking out of the conversation is the 22-year-old's confession that she isn't a Nirvana fan. She said, "I don't really like Nirvana that much [grins]. Sorry, promotional people, Universal. I'm more into Mercury Rev, Oasis, Brian Jonestown Massacre [laughs]. The grunge scene is not what I'm interested in. But 'Territorial Pissings' [on Nevermind] is a fucking great song. And "Dumb" [on In Utero]–I cry every time I hear that song. It's a stripped-down version of Kurt's perception of himself–of himself on drugs, off drugs, feeling inadequate to be titled the voice of a generation."

When asked if it was awkward to grow up disliking her father's music, she said, "I was around 15 when I realized he was inescapable. Even if I was in a car and had the radio on, there's my dad. He's larger than life, and our culture is obsessed with dead musicians."

As for the film, Frances says, "It's emotional journalism." When she first met the film's producer and director Brett Morgen, she says, "I told him, 'I don't want the mythology of Kurt or the romanticism.' Even though Kurt died in the most horrific way possible, there is this mythology and romanticism that surrounds him, because he's 27 forever. The shelf life of an artist or musician isn't particularly long. Kurt has gotten to icon status because he will never age. He will always be that relevant in that time and always be beautiful."

In Ex Machina, Alex Garland’s sci-fi thriller, Swedish actress Alicia Vikander plays Ava, an advanced, possibly dangerous robot who happens to be drop dead gorgeous. Domhnall Gleeson plays a man who's invited by Ava's creator (Oscar Isaac) to test the sophistication of her artificial intelligence—and, of course, he falls for her.

Despite her lack of an actual beating heart, Ava is one of the more crush-worthy artificial beings in movie history. But now that we're on the topic of hot bots, here are eight more big screen cyborgs/androids/robots that we would totally date.

band crush: cajsa siik

Cajsa Siik comes from a long, glowing line of Scandinavian singers who all share an uncanny knack for picturesque vocals over production that straddles the line between art and pop. Last year's album, Contra, was a beautifully wrenching paean to shattered love that earned her comparisons to her fellow Swedes Lykke Li and Robyn.

Last month, Siik released the first track off her double A side single, "State of Low" (which you can listen to below), a contained song that manages to be melancholy and hopeful at once. We caught up with Siik to find out where her music comes from, who she used to be, and where she wants to go.

How would you describe your aesthetic?
Strong, fragile, powerful, sensitive, cold, suggestive, and intense.

How did your career get started?
I guess it's been a process that started while searching for different ways to express. I was writing, painting, dancing, and then I discovered songwriting. It became my way to cope. My way to deal with all of this. So I kept on writing. I came to a certain point when I felt that I should record an album. So I recorded Plastic House. I found people along the way that seemed to understand what I wanted to do and who believed in something. And in me. Somehow the start of my “career.”

What’s your next project?
To fix myself. No, but I'm working on gathering some important ideas. Musically, visually and emotionally.

What are you most proud of so far in terms of your career?
I'm proud of that I've managed to be completely honest and uncensored when it comes to my songwriting. And that I managed to catch some of it on tape. I'm also proud of those very special people who helped me turn my vision into reality.

What famous person dead or living do most wish you could have as a roommate?
My dog, Siri. She's very much alive.

What is your favorite driving music?
Fleetwood Mac or Rage Against the Machine. Depends on the mood.

If you had to live in a past time, what do you think would be the most fun era and why?
Like many others I have this romantic picture of the 1960s, but I could also go for a long walk with Plato discussing the idea of democracy.

How do you wind down before bed?
It's not one of my favorite characteristics, but I often find myself eating insane amounts of salt liquorice.

When are you most relaxed?
After a gig. Hyper-excited and relaxed. At the same time. The best feeling.

What kind of person were you in high school?
I think that the people who knew me back then could give you a very honest answer to that question. But I'll give it a try. I remember feeling like a searcher and a bit all over the place. Like I wanted to break free. I also remember being quite shy and thoughtful.

Do you have any phobias?
People dressed up as stuffed animals. You call them mascots? I remember this one time when my parents took me to this fair and a giant pink bear came towards me and hugged me. I didn't hug it back. I ran the opposite way. I also hate to eat in big dining halls.

What’s a serious side of you that people are unlikely to know about? Either in terms of interests, hobbies, or personality?
I'm really into interpretation of dreams. I'm often dreaming these really spaced out surreal dreams and I write them down when I wake up. A few weeks a go I dreamt about whales every night for a week. Swimming with whales, eating with whales, talking to whales. I wonder what that means.

What are some of your favorite Internet “memes” of all time?
I saw this one yesterday of a bear with open jaws and snow on its face saying: “I fucking love cocaine!” It was kind of funny.

How do you hope to grow as a creative person?
Keep on searching and exploring without fear. Feeling free. The more you do and see the more experience you get, negative and positive. I think fear is the most common reason why people stop growing creatively. I want to grow fearless and free.

a never-before-heard kurt cobain song just surfaced

We're not going to dance around this news: Rolling Stone has a never-before-heard Kurt Cobain song. That's right—even though in the two decades since his death, just about everything in the iconic musician's life has been studied and made public, there's literally a song that he wrote and recorded that no one had heard until Brett Morgen discovered it in Cobain's storage facility. Morgen is directing the upcoming documentary Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck, which will include this track.

The clip that RS has on its website is brief—under 40 seconds—but the swirling, moody, haunting melody is still poignant in the way that only Kurt Cobain could be. And hearing such a familiar voice murmur such an unfamiliar tune is a breathtaking experience. Listen to it, below.

The film comes out in select theaters on April 24 and on HBO May 4.

Advice of the Day:
"There should be more women in the Hall of Fame, and more women in rock. They're out there, they just don't get the notice the pop girls do. Go to any city and there's an all-girl rock band—it's just a matter of society wanting to hear that kind of music. But people's tastes change, so you have to just do what you love and hope other people love it too." - Joan Jett

Peyton List—actress, model, cool girl—is definitely not lacking in the style department. But, this rising star is going to Coachella for the very first time, and she was having a bit of a clothing crisis. (If you’ve never been to the music festival, it’s hard to know what to wear, no matter how rad your wardrobe is.) So, she came to our offices for a personal styling session with our very own fashion editor, Marissa Smith. Some time this year, Cara Delevingne shifted her acting career into warp speed, with not one but two movies set for release in the near future. But no movie will be a bigger deal for the supermodel's transition into Hollywood than the comic book movie Suicide Squad, which just began production in Toronto.

The movie—which also stars Jared Leto, Will Smith, Margot Robbie, and Joel Kinnaman—is about a secret government agency that recruits the world's worst super villains to run highly dangerous missions in exchange for leniency. Director David Ayer has been sharing tons of goodies from the set on his Twitter account—like that time they chopped off Jared Leto's ponytail—but none more impressive than a photo of the entire cast assembled for the first table read.

There's Cara dead center, who'll be playing a character known as Enchantress, along with other cast members including Jai Courtney and The Mindy Project's Ike Barinholtz. Noticeably absent from the photo is Jared Leto, who's probably off getting his hair dyed green. He's playing the Joker.

Suicide Squad hits theaters next summer.

New York City psych-pop trio Regal Degal are finally following up their inventive 2012 debut album Veritable Who's Who, with an evolution of a sound that is hard to pin down. Not Now, out May 19th on Terrible Records, is being described by the band as a "culmination of the myriad experiences that have shaped the Regal sound," which for them includes a stint in Los Angeles to record Who's Who and a move back to their home base of Brooklyn. Not Now, which was recorded with Grizzly Bear's Chris Taylor in Berlin and New York, is ambient and idiosyncratic, immediately accessible while demanding your attention at the same time. The record's first track, "Delicious," is the perfect embodiement of this, and we're premiering it below. Let's also get to know Regal Degal members Josh da Costa, Josiah Wolfson, and Jamen Whitelock a little better, shall we?

How did your career get started?
Josh: It's really hard to consider this a career.
Jamen: Yeah very hard cuz it ain't.

Where do you hope to be professionally in 5 years?
Josh: Yikes. In the driver's seat.
Josiah: In the passenger seat.
Jamen: In the back seat.

What’s your next project?
Josh: A couple music videos and a heavenly record.
Jamen: A heavenly third record.

What are you most proud of so far in terms of your career?
Josh: The fact that my amp has survived this far, and the fact that we've stuck together for over 5 years now, we've stayed close, you know.
Josiah: I'm proud that we're still together and that we're also still doing things the way we want to and still learning.

What famous person dead or living do most wish you could have as a roommate?
Josiah: Jackson Pollis.
Jamen: But that's my roommate (in a british accent).

What is your favorite driving music?
Josh: Bobby Konders "nervous acid" and a compilation called "parisian afro discoveries" that my friend David Orlando gave me.
Jamen: Jimi Hey's pink noise mix
Josiah: Depends who's driving what, and where. Probably just have to go with Josh's No Ego mixes for our former van rides in NYC, Einzelganger for driving through the foggy rockies on tour, Wimple Winch for driving around with my girlfriend when we lived in LA.

What are some of your favorite memes of all time?
Josh: I think grape fall lady is a classic.
Jamen: I like Denver the guilty dog.
Josiah: Leprechaun in Alabama.

How do you hope to grow as a creative person?
Josiah: Exponentially.
Jamen: A more consistent output.
Josh: Broaden my grasp of both what I want and what others want out of my work.

If there was a phrase that you think best sums up your approach to life what might it be?
Josh: Treat yourself, treat others.
Jamen: Choose love.
Josiah: There is no solution because there is no problem (Duchamp).

Netflix has been giving viewers an embarrassment of riches lately, and the newest treasure in their chest is Grace and Frankie, a comedy starring acting legends Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda. The first full trailer has debuted, and it gives you a sense of the show's tone—broad comedy with moments of poignancy sprinkled throughout. Which is pretty much what you'd expect from a show about two older women who form a friendship after their husbands leave them for each other. Sam Waterson and Martin Sheen play those husbands, and their sudden union sets off a late-life crisis for two women who thought they had it all figured out. Grace and Frankie drops on Netflix on May 8. We can't wait.

president obama condemns lgbtq conversion therapy

It’s been nearly four months since 17-year-old Leelah Alcorn died. And in that time, over 120,000 people have signed an online petition calling for the White House to enact a bill that would ban all LGBTQ+ conversion therapies — a program Alcorn’s parents put her in as an attempt to convert her back to being boy. Last night, April 8, the White House issued a statement recognizing the petition.

Written by one of President Obama’s senior advisors Valerie Jarrett, with an introduction by the President himself, the response criticizes the practice of conversion therapies as “neither medically nor ethically appropriate” and that it “can cause substantial harm.” Jarrett then declares, “As part of our dedication to protecting America’s youth, this Administration supports efforts to ban the use of conversion therapy for minors.”

This is a milestone for the growing cause for equal transgender rights. At the heart of this is Leelah Alcorn, whose suicide is but one of a countless number of deaths the LGBTQ+ community has suffered due to practices like conversion therapy. In her suicide note, she called for “transgender people to be treated like humans, with valid feelings and human rights.” Now, finally, that wish is one step closer towards being realized.

The ladies of Litchfield Penitentiary are back — some in bigger ways than before.

The first trailer for season three of Netflix’s smash hit Orange is the New Black debuted today, along with a few makeovers — namely, Big Boo’s bob. Alex Vause is back, but the whereabouts of Natasha Lyonne’s Nicky Nichols are blurry; she only appears in one brief clip and it looks like she’s been released. Crazy Eyes debuts some poetry about romance and aliens and Piper, as usual, continues her quest to be the penitentiary’s most neurotic human alive.

The series doesn’t return until June 12, which gives you plenty of time to catch up on all that went down in season two. (And there was a lot…) This time, though, the cast isn’t fooling around. It looks like OITNB is pulling out all the punches — literally. Red says, “The world is better in black and white. And red.” But we’d like to think it’s better in black, white, red, and, well, orange.

taylor swift shares sad news with her fans

Since her first album, Taylor Swift has always been open with her fans. This morning, however, the 1989 singer went beyond giving breakup advice. At her mother's request, she addressed a heartfelt letter to her fans on Tumblr, letting them know that her mother has been diagnosed with cancer. She wrote:

Hey guys,

I'm writing to you with an update I wish I wasn't giving you, but it's important and I'm used to sharing important events in my life with you. Usually when things happen to me, I process them and then write music about how I feel, and you hear it much later. This is something my family and I thought you should know about now.

For Christmas this year, I asked my mom that one of her gifts to me be her going to the doctor to get screened for any health issues, just to ease some worries of mine. She agreed, and went in to get checked. There were no red flags and she felt perfectly fine, but she did it just to get me and my brother off her case about it.

The results came in, and I'm saddened to tell you that my mom has been diagnosed with cancer. I'd like to keep the details of her condition and treatment plans private, but she wanted you to know.

She wanted you to know because your parents may be too busy juggling everything they've got going on to go to the doctor, and maybe you reminding them to go get checked for cancer could possibly lead to an early diagnosis and an easier battle… Or peace of mind in knowing that they're healthy and there's nothing to worry about. She wanted you to know why she may not be at as many shows this tour. She's got an important battle to fight.

Thank you for caring about my family so much that she would want me to share this information with you.

I hope and pray that you never get news like this.

Love you.
Taylor

Recently, many celebrities have been sharing their own experience with cancer and other health scares. In 2007, Christina Applegate publicly fought breast cancer. After testing positive for the BRCA gene (also known as the "breast cancer gene"), she decided to get a bilateral mastectomy. Her experience helped bring awareness to the disease and possible preventative measures. Similarly, Angelina Jolie, who also tested positive for the BRCA1 gene, wrote about undergoing a preventative double mastectomy and recently penned a New York Times op-ed about why she also removed her ovaries and fallopian tubes to prevent ovarian cancer.

Hopefully Swift's openness helps inspire her 60+ million followers and others to get tested and receive proper checkups. This is social oversharing of the best, and most effective, kind.

Victoria's Secret Fashion Show veteran, up-and-coming actress, and entrepreneur Rosie Huntington-Whiteley is so much more than a gorgeous face. The 27-year-old supermodel just released her own lingerie line, Rosie for Autograph, and is set to make her second film appearence in the upcoming apocalyptic flick Mad Max—and now she's quite literally baring it all in a nude shoot and interview for The Violet Files.

While Huntington-Whiteley is used to going glam for her modeling gigs, she reveals that her beauty routine in real life is relatively basic. For a simple, natural look, she relys on Chanel Vitalumiere Aquay foundation for an even complexion and Laura Mercier Crème Cheek Color in Rosebud for a pretty flush. Final touches of YSL Babydoll Mascara in Wheedler Brown and a little bit of Eve Lom Kiss Mix lip balm finish off her fresh face.

With a low-key makeup routine and a sharp focus on her acting and entrepreneurial ventures, the supermodel also manages to stay down-to-earth in spite of her otherworldly beauty. Working in a chaotic industry, she grounds herself through loyal friendships and connections. "I believe who you surround yourself is a reflection of yourself," she says. "There’s a quote I have always liked by Will Rogers: ‘It takes a lifetime to build a good reputation, but you can lose it in a minute.'"

This is not a drill. HBO just bombed the Internet by dropping a short but revealing teaser for the second season of True Detective. All the hallmarks of True Detective are there, from the mournful country song scoring the clip, to prolonged moments of introspection punctuated by sudden bursts of violence. We see Colin Farrell's Ray Velcoro, a corrupt cop who looks like he'll be taking the smoking duties from Matthew McConaughey. Vince Vaughan is there as mob kingpin Frank Semyon, "a career criminal in danger of losing his empire." And Rachel McAdams and Taylor Kitsch as two beautiful, damaged, and beautifully damaged officers struggling with gambling addiction and PTSD, respectively. We don't get too much of a sense of the season's new West Coast setting besides an opening shot of a tangle of freeways, but like season one, expect California to play a major role in the story. Season two of True Detective premieres on June 21, which is not soon enough.

the on-screen chemistry of every nicholas sparks couple, ranked

Lush Southern settings, beautifully tormented lovers, and tragic storylines. Yes, there’s a new Nicholas Sparks movie out. This week’s The Longest Ride brings together the world of competitive bull-riding, art history, and a star-crossed romance set in North Carolina’s Jewish community during WWII (no, really). Over the years, the author of The Notebook and countless other romantic potboilers has become Hollywood’s go-to source for (often teen-friendly) passion. Here’s the thing with Sparks adaptations, though: The plots may be ridiculous, the dialogue hare-brained, but somehow, none of that matters if the romantic leads have real chemistry. So, we went through all the Sparks-based movies Hollywood has given us to date, and assessed the onscreen couples (there are thirteen of them, because some movies have more than one) based on how good they are together.
